Beginning her career at the London Business School and The Institute for Fiscal Studies, Stephanie went on to present on Newsnight and become BBC Economics Editor before crossing the Atlantic to act as a speech writer and hold the post of advisor at the US Treasury. She is the daughter of celebrated musical comedian Michael Flanders and has made a BBC documentary on his life and career.

Educated at Baliol College, Oxford and Harvard University, Stephanie Flanders began her career as editorial-writer and economics columnist at the Financial Times and as an economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and London Business School. She later moved to the USA becoming a speech-writer and seminar advisor to the US Treasury Secretary, Lawrence H. Summers during the Clinton Administration. Here, she was also involved with various economic issues between 1997 to 2001 including the management of emerging market crisis as well as working as a reporter for the New York Times and Principal Editor of the UN’s 2002 Human Development Report.

From 2008 to 2013, Stephanie was the BBC’s Economics Editor and has also presented Masters of Money on BBC 2 and Newsnight as well as her own radio show Stephanomics on Radio 4.

She went on to become Chief Market Strategist covering the UK and Europe for JP Morgan Asset Management and has since held the position of Senior Executive Editor and Head of Economics at Bloomberg, the financial software, data and media company.

She was elected to the governing council of the Royal Economic Society in 2007 and was made visiting Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford in 2008.

Among her many accolades, Stephanie won the 2010 Harold Wilmott Foundation’s Award for Online Journalism, Broadcaster of the Year 2011 and the Political Studies’ Association’s Broadcaster of the Year 2012.
