Ruby Wax arrived in the UK in the 70’s initially training as an actress. Having made her debut with the Royal Shakespeare Company, she joined the BBC honing her skills as an interviewer, comedian, scriptwriter and editor for film and television with credits including the hist series Absolutely Fabulous.

Having gained much popularity and success on this career path, she then turned her attention to psychotherapy and neuroscience, graduating from Oxford University with an MA in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. She has gone on to gain further qualifications and many accolades for her work in this field and is an accomplished speaker on mental health issues.

Other achievements and honours in the field of mental health include being an Alumni and Honorary Senior Fellow of Regents University, London, where she gained an MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling. She is also a Visiting Professor in the School of Mental Health Nursing at the University of Surrey in addition to holding an Honorary Doctorate from the School of Psychology East London and is Chancellor of Southampton University with many other awards and accolades to her name.

Aside from her numerous qualifications related to mental health, Ruby has never made any secret of the fact she has first hand experience of what its like dealing with such issues on a personal level which makes her the perfect choice to speak on the subject.

Having performed two one-woman shows, Sane New World and Frazzled, nationally, internationally and in London’s West End, Ruby presented her TED Talk “What’s So Funny About Mental Illness?” in 2012. She has also Founded the social networking site Black Dog Tribe in support of those suffering with mental illness, launched Frazzled Cafes in partnership with M&S, enabling groups to meet at designated times working on an AA based format led by trained experts, speaks in Parliament and Downing Street while working tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for neuroscience research and to break the stigma that’s till relates to mental health issues.

The President of Relate she is also an Ambassador for MIND and SAN.

Not surprisingly, Ruby is the autor of a variety of books and speaks regularly on the corporate circuit where topics include communication on deep and effective levels and how to enjoy good mental health.
