More

Monty Don’s passion for gardening began at a young age so it is perhaps no wonder he has gone on to become of the UK’s most respected horticulturalists.

By his own admission, Monty has never followed a career plan which is probably reflected during the early days when he ran a jewellery business with his wife Sarah. Despite some success the business eventually folded which left Monty free to pursue his television and writing career which was at the time, beginning to blossom!

Monty’s first television appearance was in 1989 on ITV’s This Morning where he went on to become their gardening expert.

He has now been presenting gardening and travel programmes for over twenty years including taking over the lead presenter role from Alan Titchmarsh on the BBC Flagship programme Gardeners World. Other television credits include; Real Gardens, Lost Gardens, Around the World in 80 Gardens, two series for BBC2 on Italian and French gardens, Real Craft for More4, The Secret History of the British Garden, Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens, three series of Big Dreams, Small Space and the Chelsea Flower Show.

On radio he has presented the series Shared Planet for Radio 4 in which he explores the complex relationship between the growing population and wildlife.

A prolific journalist, Monty has written a number of best-selling books including; Down to Earth, Paradise Gardens and Japanese Gardens:A Journey. He is a regular contributor and columnist to publications such as the Observer, The Daily Mail and Gardener’s World Magazine.

Committed to organic gardening, Monty was for many years, the President of the Soil Association. He has reported on environmental developments for Tomorrow’s World and helped to evolve a farm-based project aimed at the rehabilitation of repeat offenders and drug addicts which was filmed for TV entitled Growing Out Of Trouble.

Monty makes numerous appearances throughout the year at literary and gardening events where he is frequently in demand for his highly informative and inspiring talks.
