Multi award winning broadcaster Michael Buerk is a former Television Journalist of the Year and has presented such flagship television programmes as The Ten O’Clock New for BBC and 999 reporting on emergencies. Additional credits include; Discovering Britain for More 4, Britain’s Secret Treasures in connection with the British Museum, Britain’s Secret Homes, Pompeii with Michael Buerk and Inside the National Trust all for ITV and The Moral Maze on BBC Radio 4. In addition, he speaks on international, environmental, political and industrial issues.

Journalist, presenter and broadcaster Michael Buerk began his career with the Bromsgrove Messenger, South Wales Echo and the Daily Mail before joining Radio Bristol and reporting for BBC News in the early 70’s. 

He became a familiar face on television screens for presenting the main BBC news bulletins at one, nine, and ten o’clock in addition to programmes such as BBC Breakfast, 999 and for reporting on major live events including the Royal Wedding of Prince Edwards, the Eclipse and the Millennium night coverage.

 He has won numerous international awards for his television reporting where accolades include Royal Television Society Journalist of the Year together with a number of RTS awards for foreign reporting, a BAFTA for factual broadcasting, a Golden Nymph Award, the USA National Headliner Award and the George Polk Award to name but a few. 

Perhaps more importantly, he received much critical acclaim for his work on the Ethiopian famine of 84/85. His reports were broadcast worldwide, leading directly to a huge international relief campaign estimated at saving a million lives.

On radio, Michael has acted as Chairman of The Moral Maze and The Choice both for Radio 4.

He continues to narrate and report on a variety of programmes where credits include; Pineapple Dance Studios, Britain’s Secret Treasures, Britain’s Secret Homes, The One Show and the investigative Channel 4 programme Dispatches. In a lighter vein, he has appeared on the celebrity version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Celebrity Mastermind and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. 

Michael’s autobiography, The Road Taken, was published in 2004.

With a wealth of experience at his fingertips, Michael is a highly skilled conference facilitator, awards host and presenter across a wide variety of corporate events both at home and abroad.
