A Veteran of The Royal Airforce, Flt. Lt. John Nichol is known to millions as the first to be shot down and captured during the initial low-level daylight raid in The Gulf War. Tortured by his captors and held hostage, his image was beamed worldwide and remains one of the most enduring memories of the conflict. Tortured by his captors and held hostage, his image was beamed worldwide and remains one of the most enduring memories of the conflict. Following his release, John returned to active service with his military career seeing him involved in action around the world including; Bosnia, The Middle East, The Falklands and the Nevada Desert, before retiring from the armed forces and seeking a career in the media. 

In addition to being an authority on the military, John has acted as a consultant and presenter for Newsnight, BBC News, CNN, World in Action and Cutting Edge in addition to devising and presenting several programmes such as Survivors, interviewing people who have gone through life changing experiences.

He has written for UK newspapers including The Times, The Mail On Sunday and The Guardian and is the author of a number of books.

John’s traumatic experiences have contributed greatly to his ability to deal with adversity and change.
