Hollyoaks first took to our television screens in 1995 and was ground-breaking in that it focussed on a younger target audience. Created by Phil Redmond, the writer behind the Liverpool based soap Brookside, Hollyoaks is set in the fictional suburb of Chester. Multi-award winning, Hollyoaks is heralded as one of the UK’s top soaps now appealing to audiences of all ages. It is renowned for being one of the first programmes of its kind to cover sensitive subjects such as; rape, substance abuse, infidelity and psychological well-being issues.
