The Yorkshire Dales and the farming community of Emmerdale is the fictional setting for the much-loved northern based soap opera Emmerdale. Originally called Emmerdale Farm, early episodes centred on local farmers the Sugdens. Praised for its reality, with actors regularly getting hands on in farming tasks! The series began in 1972 and like all soaps has endured its fair share of triumphs and disasters including two plane crashes! In 1989 the programme changed its name to Emmerdale broadening its storylines to encompass the lives of the villagers, thus giving the series a new perspective.

Multi award-winning, the show airs on ITV Monday – Friday with double episode specials featured on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
