Famed as the first female to sail single-handed, non-stop round the world in the westward direction against prevailing winds and currents, Dee Caffari is not only a multi-world record holder but one of Britain’s most inspirational women.

She began her working life as a PE teacher but with a passion for travel and adventure, decided to swap the classroom for a job in the marine industry. To that end, she qualified as a water sports instructor, took her off-shore sailing qualifications and began working on yachts.  So began her epic journey and voyage into the history books. 

It was in 2006 that Dee completed the record setting circumnavigation of the globe, battling the elements and currents into the bargain.

Dee added to her list of sailing achievements in 2008/2009 when she not only competed in the non-stop, single-handed Vendee Globe round the world race, finishing in a creditable 6th place out of 30 but also took the overall crewed monohull Round Britain and Ireland Speed Record.

But Dee’s love of the ocean doesn’t stop with sailing. She is a keen environmentalist and as such is an ambassador for the RYA Green Blue Campaign who promote the need to re-use, re-cycle and reduce! To that end, 2017/18 saw her lead the first mixed gender youth team Turn the Tide on Plastic, to complete the Volvo Ocean Race.

As an after-dinner speaker Dee is equally at home in front of a small more intimate dinner audience or in a large conference hall. She presents in an engaging manner incorporating footage from her record-breaking experiences.
