The world’s longest running television soap opera Coronation Street, first took to our airwaves on ITV in 1960. It depicts the lives of the inhabitants of the fictional northern suburb of Weatherfield, over the years creating many beloved characters which the British public have taken to their hearts.
Now screening six times a week, the kitchen sink drama realism has ensured the programme’s place in history having reached its landmark ‘longest running’ status in 2010. Now in its sixtieth year, Corrie’s longest serving cast member, William Roache, aka Ken Barlow, still makes regular appearances on the show having completed almost 60 years in the role.
