Andy Fordham made his debut appearance at Lakeside in 1995 playing darts for the BDO. He went on to win the World Masters and later, the World Championship before serious illness forced him to take a break from the game. He is in great demand for his after dinner presentations.
Former darts world champion Andy Fordham came to the sport by chance. A keen footballer in his youth, Andy played for a local hotel team and it was here his interest in darts began. Finding themselves a man down for their darts team one day, Andy’s soccer team mates persuaded him into joining them and it wasn’t long before his true potential was spotted.
Andy’s darts career began with the Kent Super League, progressing to County level competition. Country-wide tours followed and in 1999 he won the Winmau World Masters title. Andy went on to win the BDO World Championship in 2004. Other winning performances include nine major competitions, among them the Welsh Open, the Swiss Open, the Norway Open and the British Matchplay Championship.
In 2007 Andy was forced to withdraw from competition as a result of a health scare, prior to his first round match against Simon Whitlock at the BDO World Championships. A radical weight loss program followed with Andy shedding an incredible 17 stone and significantly improving his health situation in the process.
Highly respected on the darts scene and with a charismatic personality, Andy is now one of the most popular darts speakers on the corporate circuit. Inspirational and motivational, his presentations give an insight as to what it’s like to involved in the top flight of the sport, his personal battles with weight loss and alcohol, the need for a healthy lifestyle, maximizing success, self transformation, overcoming adversity and peak performance.
