Heralded as the Michael Jordan of wheelchair basketball, Ade represented Great Britain at the European and World Championships as well as winning a Bronze Medal at the Athens Olympics. Since retiring from competition, Ade has carved himself a career in the media as a presenter, reporter and filmmaker. Ade speaks on overcoming adversity, peak performance and setting boundaries.
Despite being afflicted with polio as a youngster, Ade went on to become one of the biggest names in Wheelchair Basketball, competing for Great Britain in the European and World Championships. Since then he has travelled all over the world, conquering a variety of demanding terrains, as well as acquiring a wealth of TV presenting experience.
Refusing to let disability be an obstacle, Ade won a bronze and a silver medal at the 2002 and 2005 Wheelchair Basketball European Championships. He also captained his country to a silver medal at the 2002 World Championships in Japan. It was in 2004 however, that he achieved his lifelong ambition, winning a medal at the Athens Paralympics.
Since then Ade has developed a high-profile career in television, working as a presenter, reporter and filmmaker for the BBC and Channel 4.
In 2005 he took part in the BBC1 documentary Beyond Boundaries, in which he trekked through rainforests, deserts, rivers and mountains in Nicaragua. In one episode he pulled himself to the top of a 5000ft volcano – without his wheelchair.
In 2014 Ade joined BBC World’s, The Travel Show, as well as fronting the live, ten-day coverage of The Winter Paralympic Games on Channel 4. He has also worked on a number of documentaries, including BBC2’s This World, Channel 4’s Dispatches and in 2019travelled to Africa filming in a vast array of contrasting places in a bid to show how the continent differs from location to location, thus providing unique and surprising experiences.
Other presenting credits include; reporting for The Claire Balding Show on BT, co-hosting That Paralympic Show, British Basketball – Game On and The Eindhoven Swimming Championships for Channel 4.
