Fiona Thornewill

 

Record-breaking Fiona Thornewill reached the South Pole after 42 days of unsupported solo walking in January 2004. This was achieved after becoming the first British woman to arrive at the South Pole with team-mate Catherine Hartly and husband Mike in January 2000. She was also the first British woman to walk to the North Pole in May 2001.
 

 
Stephen Venables
